A bit about me...
My name is Beatrix Franco, better known as Trixie (or Trix). I was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States with my mom and three sisters in 2004. During my undergrad, I studied early childhood and special education at Lewis University. This is my first semester in the grad program at Dominican University. I am working towards a Master's degree in Special Education.
Currently, I am an assistant teacher at Goedert Center on Priory Campus. Prior to Goedert, I worked in daycares, tutoring centers, and various other positions, in and out of childcare.
My hobbies include baking, cooking, photography, traveling, and powerlifting. I also love all things dog! My family's most recent addition is Winston. We adopted him from a local animal shelter in December 2019. He is such a big source of joy in our lives.

Why teach?
Growing up in a single parent family in the Philippines, my mom took additional jobs outside of teaching in school for extra income. She took on tutoring jobs, having me tag along on occasion. Seeing my mom work with children provided an inspiration and foundation for teaching. Since then, I have volunteered at my church as a Sunday school teacher and continue to pursue my career in the education field.
My students are why I teach. It is so fulfilling to see a student come full circle and make a connection, or have their "aha" moment. I also love knowing that I am helping children create their foundation and love for learning, especially at a young age. My hope is that the children in my classroom feel safe and comfortable in school so that they may explore their curiosity.
Integrating Technology
I am looking forward to all the new technology methods and platforms that we will be learning about during this intensive course. I am excited and overwhelmed, but ready to take on the challenge!
Welcome! Your story is inspiring! As an immigrant myself I can relate to many things you've mentioned! Powerlifting is impressing! My former groupmate from the university in Ukraine is pursuing her sport's career in Powerlifting. She has already been a champion in her weight category a few times. So good luck with that! As they say, "A sound mind in a sound body!".

Hi Trixie. Thanks for sharing your story! Like you, I was influenced by a parent. My dad was on the school board just about my whole elementary school time so I had some extra time in schools after hours during meetings and I loved it. Like you, we have rescued animals! We are a cat household and my daughter decided to keep a kitten we are currently fostering. Looking forward to getting you excited to start graduate school!
